On the Trail to Living Lightly
This summer I quit my job to pursue a dream. I wanted to make a film that celebrated people who have chosen to live more lightly. I wanted to show that it is possible to make radical changes in the way we live, to reduce our negative impact on our environment, to increase our positive impact in society, and to have fun and lead a rewarding and abundant life at the same time. I have never been short on ambition!
I believed that I could find enough people to make a film and tell a story. I found them, right here in my own backyard. People who have made the choice to put quality of life above quantity of stuff. People who believe that many small steps can lead to big changes. People open to experimenting, to sharing and to listening. People who don’t take “it’s not possible†for an answer.
What a journey it has been, and I’ve only just begun. Since the beginning of November, I and my intrepid crew (more about them in future blogs) have been out filming around the Ottawa region. We haven’t had to travel far, for two reasons. First, there are great stories on every block. Second, I decided to make this a “100-kilometre filmâ€Â, so as to keep the film’s ambien online no prescription footprint small, and so as to show that any community is filled with people trying to live lightly. The trick is to find them, connect with them, listen to their stories, and help them tell their stories and share their experiences.
Today, we have decided to begin sharing those stories, albeit in a very modest way, long before the filming is completed. In the coming weeks, as we collect and edit more stories, we will be making them available in short segments. We will be seeking feedback. Your feedback.
We want to know: Are these stories clear? Are they informative? Are they inspiring? Too technical, or not enough? Do you know people who we should interview? Do you want to interview them and send us your videos?
The Living Lightly Project is an interactive experiment in building solutions through sharing ideas, experiences and knowledge. It’s an “open source†film and website. Successes, failures, serious stuff, funny stuff – it’s all welcome. Just contact us and let us know what you plan to do, and we’ll walk you through the techie talk.
It’s going to be a long journey, but I’ve taken the first step. Please join me! Together, we’re going to go places.
